Yann Busnel

Directeur Scientifique de l'IMT

Welcome

I am currently Vice-President for Science at the Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT). With several years’ experience at the Institut Mines-Télécom, in particular at IMT Atlantique and IMT Nord Europe, I am responsible for developing and implementing the group’s scientific strategy. In particular, I am involved in inter-affiliate dynamics: doctoral courses, PhD diplomas of IMT and the activities of the 11 scientific communities.

I am deeply committed to the values of public service and have over 15 years’ experience in research and higher education. Between June 2023 and September 2024, I was Director of Research and Innovation at IMT Nord Europe, where I steered all research and innovation activities in line with the lMT’s strategic objectives.

Prior to that, I spent six years as a Professor at IMT Atlantique as Head of Department, where I oversaw the training and research activities of the Rennes campus. Before that, I was Head of the Computer Science Education and Research Department at ENSAI in Rennes, where I directed the institute’s computer science activities and managed the department’s budget. Earlier, I spent 5 years as a Maître de Conférences at the University of Nantes, in the Computer Science Department, after a year in Italy, at the University ‘La Sapienza’ in Rome.

In my current role, I am responsible for developing and steering the group’s scientific strategy, in cooperation with the affiliates and the relevant external institutions, and in line with the IMT 2023-2027 strategy. I coordinate the various doctoral courses and the institution’s PhD diploma. I promote the animation and shared impulses between the 11 scientific communities structured between the institutes of the group. I strengthen the group’s visibility in major R&D programmes, whether national (France 2030), European (Horizon Europe) or international, and I help to assert the Institut Mines-Télécom’s position within the academic and economic ecosystems. I also work to mobilise the Scientific Council to define and implement research orientations.
